GT Rebel 4×4 – Renault Master

We present to you the last real 4×4 van … Renault Master is a real Rebel in the 4×4 Van category with 3.5t GVW. In the era of downsizing and electronic All Wheel Drive systems that do not have much in common with the off-road characteristics, Renault stands out with its 2.3 engine and the selective drive system from Oberaigner. The factory vehicle has a strong off-road gear (reducer) and two bridge locks, central + rear. Its other advantage is the ability to use the reducer in 2wd mode, which is a phenomenal option when overcoming large hills.

The van was created on the Canvia of a Renault Master C-category vehicle, so it is a completely different unit than a front-wheel drive vehicle. Other than the 2wd version, the 2.3 165km engine is known for its reliability and we found out about it because we have been using these vans notoriously since 2020. Another advantage of this vehicle is high ground clearance and its optimal comfort, plus the base price and the fact that the drive is factory-made, i.e. we have a full warranty for it in the Renault dealer network. Of course, the 4×4 van market has two well-known players who produce strongly off-road drive systems, but the factory version is always easier to repair “in the world”.

We never expected that after a few years of modification of the MB Sprinter, any other vehicle, especially the “French”, would turn out to be not so much a replacement for Mercedes, but such a well-terrained and good alternative. We often see heavily modified vehicles with 4 motion, AWD, etc … Unfortunately, this type of drive is great, but for wet or snow-covered asphalt roads, not in off-road conditions.

The Rebel GT is our almost completely new design based on the Grand Tourer predecessor. Aluminum-Bamboo, noiseless and indestructible furniture, two bedrooms, one of which is a heated roof tent made for our special order (the first such product in the world for RM), a large bathroom with two types of toilets to choose from (cassette / composting), a large number of cabinets, huge garage and greatly enlarged living space. 140 liters of water heated by Webasto systems, Webasto parking heater, Webasto refrigerator… and many other amenities.

Rebel GT is also our next step “upstream” and completely new, but well-proven power systems. In the era of madness for Victron systems that work phenomenally in complex structures, e.g. trucks, we focus on the highly competitive Whisper Power brand and the phenomenal Australian RedArc. The combination of these two systems allowed us to save almost 50% of the weight and space in which we would normally have to fit equipment adequate for the construction of an expedition truck, not a 4×4 van. Each vehicle leaves us with a 200ah Lifepo4 energy bank, expandable up to 600ah!
